Oceanic's Alpha 8 second stage and SP5 first stage produce a low priced, no frills regulator system that offers easy breathing. This regulator is so rugged and economical to maintain (replacement parts are inexpensive) that it's become popular as a rental. It can be used with air or nitrox mixtures up to 40 percent right out of the box. SECOND STAGE The Alpha 8's super sturdy ABS/Polycarbonate housing weighs just six ounces and measures just more than two and three-quarter inches in diameter. Even the ring that holds the cover in place is feather light, it's made of anodized aircraft aluminum. The lightweight and anatomically designed mouthpiece translate into a second stage that won't cause jaw strain. FIRST STAGE At 26ounces, the SP5 is one of Oceanic's lightest first stages and features an unbalanced piston design. Machined from marine brass and chrome plated, it offers one high pressure port and four low pressure ports.
